1. Stoneymollan Loch Lomond

⭐️ RATING: 9.8/10 | 📍 LOCATION: Upper Stoneymollan Road, Balloch, G83 8QU

I love visiting Loch Lomond. The scenery is so picturesque, it feels like you’ve stepped into a postcard. I could spend days walking along the shores of the lake, taking in the magnificent views.

The whole area is renowned for its picturesque views and has many luxury cottages and lodges to choose from.

Stoneymollan is nestled on the far southern corner of Loch Lomond, close to the village of Balloch.

This fantastic lodge offers a luxurious getaway in the heart of the beautiful Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.

It has an incredibly peaceful atmosphere and feels very secluded. You’ll love the views, the fresh air, and the magnificent sunsets over the lake.

You can choose between two luxury cabins: Juniper, with its private wood-fired hot tub, and Holly, equipped with its own luxurious glass-fronted sauna.

Both cabins boast panoramic views of Loch Lomond, The Ochil Hills, and The Crieff and Loch Earn Hills. In autumn and winter months the views of Inchmurrin and Ben Lomond are particularly clear.

The cabins are located close to all the amenities of Balloch but feel very tucked away, and are surrounded by open fields and woods.

It’s perfectly situated for taking long walks along the adjacent John Muir Way or Three Lochs Way walking trails. There’s also an abundance of local wildlife including golden eagles, ospreys, deer, and red squirrels.

This place offers a truly luxurious experience, and the welcoming hosts go above and beyond to ensure your stay is comfortable.

Stoneymollan is also one of the most accessible luxury lodges in Scotland. You can easily drive here from Glasgow in about 30 minutes.

Alternatively, the train from Glasgow Central to Balloch takes less than an hour. From Balloch, you can either walk the final 1.3 miles to the lodge or take a local taxi. Ask the owners to help you pre-arrange this if needed.

Amenities include:

  • Private sauna or hot tub (depending on which lodge you pick)
  • Terrace
  • Mountain views
  • Fully equipped kitchenette
  • Coffee machine
  • BBQ facilities
  • Satellite TV

⭐️ RATING: 9.6/10 | 📍 LOCATION: Barrock Mains, Wick, KW1 4UE

Caithness is a historic county in the far north of Scotland, known for its dramatic coastline, sweeping landscapes, and rich history.

I visited this part of the country for the first time last year and was really blown away by its beauty.

Caithness View Luxury Farm Lodges provide a perfect getaway for those looking to experience a slice of luxury in the far north.

Located on Barrock Mains, a family-owned farm, this place offers a unique escape that’s perfect for those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

There are two luxury self-catering lodges, Morven and Swallows. Both have large windows offering panoramic south-facing views of expansive farmland.

The attention to detail is impeccable, with soothing modern interior design, beautifully vaulted ceilings, and a range of amenities.

There’s a fully-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar, a spacious bathroom (complete with a rainfall shower), a flat-screen TV, board games, indoor and outdoor dining areas, and a large deck to sit out when the weather is nice.

One of my favourite features of this place is that you also have your very own private BBQ hut. This comes with all the necessary utensils and a bag of charcoal. It’s a perfect place to enjoy a cozy evening by the fire.

Both lodges can accommodate up to six people, with a separate twin bedroom, a double bed in the open-plan living area, plus an extra sofa bed. The beds are super comfy and all bedding and towels are provided.

Nature lovers should keep an eye out for otters in the nearby burn. Oalston House is located a pleasant hour’s walk away.

As an operational farm, Barrock Mains also offers a window into rural life, from the shearing of sheep to the rhythmic ploughing of fields.

To top it all off, its prime location on the North Coast 500 route ensures easy accessibility, making it an unmissable stop on this iconic Scottish road trip.

7. Ardlui Lochside Lodges

⭐️ RATING: 8.7/10 | 📍 LOCATION: Ardlui, Loch Lomond, Argyll, G83 7EB

Ardlui is a very picturesque spot, nestled within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, at the far northern tip of the loch.

Ardlui Lochside Lodges offers a luxurious Scottish getaway on the shores of the loch.

With 7 self-catering lodges, some with private hot tubs and saunas, the whole place has wonderful views and a truly peaceful atmosphere.

The lodges themselves are all different. But each one has a range of comfortable facilities and amenities.

They’re really spacious inside, with several sofas, and a large open-plan kitchen and dining room. Outside, you have your own private veranda with amazing views of the lake and the surrounding hills.

Central heating and double glazing help keep you snug and warm at any time of year. And if you opt for one of the lodges with a sauna – well, that’s even better.

They remind me of Scandinavian luxury cabins – but in Scotland.

The lodges sit within the grounds of the intimate 3-star Ardlui Hotel, which has been owned and operated by the Squires family since 1959.

There’s an on-site restaurant and a bar with a fantastic selection of Scottish whiskies. The hotel also has its own private pier with access to various watersports.

This is definitely one of the pricier options on this list. However, the lodges sleep between 4-8 people each, so you can split the cost with others, making it more affordable per person.

And the quality is second to none – this is a very luxurious spot.

Amenities include:

  • Private sauna and hot tub
  • Spacious open plan kitchen-living-dining area
  • BBQ facilities
  • Bath
  • On-site restaurant and bar

8. Loch Aweside Forest Cabins

⭐️ RATING: 8.8/10 | 📍 LOCATION: Dalavich, PA35 1HS

Loch Awe is Scotland’s longest freshwater loch, and one of its most scenic.

Located near Dalavich on the water’s edge, Loch Aweside Forest Cabins are surrounded by dense forest, with plenty of options for hiking and fishing. Dalavich Oakwood Forest has some particularly lovely trails.

These cabins are serene and secluded, offering large plots with private gardens and all the amenities you need to truly relax.

There are several different luxury cabins to choose from, of varying different sizes. Most cabins can sleep between 4-9 people.

Features include vaulted ceilings, raised verandas, and wood-burning stoves. Some of the cabins have private hot tubs (check at the time of booking).

Some also have barbecue areas and fire pits – although BBQ equipment is not provided, sadly.

All come with a fully-equipped kitchen, lounge area with sofas, dining table, comfy seating, an outdoor deck/veranda, a garden area, and a TV.

Wildlife lovers can also enjoy spotting pine martens, red squirrels, eagles, and more from the cabin itself.

It’s a wonderful place to enjoy the tranquillity and natural beauty of the Highlands and is fairly off-the-beaten-path and unspoiled.

The nearby Dalavich village is within easy walking distance too. Here you’ll find a little shop, a cafe, and the Loch View Restaurant, all less than 10 minutes away on foot.

9. Chalet Blaich

⭐️ RATING: 9.6/10 | 📍 LOCATION: 10 Blaich, Fort William, PH33 7AN

Blaich is a tiny community located near Fort William, on the southern shores of Loch Eil.

This area is close to some of Scotland’s most dramatic Highland scenery, including Glencoe and Ben Nevis, the UK’s tallest mountain.

Chalet Blaich offers the perfect luxurious getaway in Scotland, sleeping up to 4 people in 2 double bedrooms.

The chalet has a modern and well-equipped kitchen with an induction hob, oven, microwave, washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, and fridge/freezer.

There’s a comfortable lounge area with sofas, a TV, and a sound system. Electric wall panels provide efficient heating, and there’s also a wood-burning stove for cozy nights in.

You can enjoy breathtaking views of the loch and surrounding mountains from the comfort of your home away from home.

The wooden decking that runs around three sides of the chalet is a perfect place to catch some rays or enjoy the spectacular Highlands sunsets.

Chalet Blaich also has free Wi-Fi and all bed linen and towels are included, making it even easier for you to enjoy your stay.

There are many worthwhile places to visit nearby, including the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, Loch Ness, Neptune’s Staircase, and the Nevis Distillery.

You can also take the Jacobite Steam Train (AKA the “Hogwarts Express”) which runs from Fort William to Mallaig (and goes over the famous viaduct).

Or, drive the gorgeous Road to the Isles, the scenic route to Mallaig – gateway to Skye and the Western Isles – and the Silver Sands of Morar beach.

You can even explore the Ardnamurchan peninsula, the most westerly point in mainland Britain.

This untouched area is a haven for wildlife (including wildcats, pine martens, deer, and eagles) and has some great walking trails.

If you’re looking for a luxurious holiday cabin in Scotland with fantastic amenities and an amazing location in the heart of the Highlands – Chalet Blaich may be perfect for you!

Also, the owners have a second cabin (Chalet Rus), and you can rent both if you have a larger party.

The main downside to this property is that it’s relatively inaccessible without a car. However, with so many fantastic places to visit in this part of Scotland, I’d strongly recommend having a car here anyway.

IMPORTANT: Never travel without travel insurance!

Here are three companies that I’ve used, and thoroughly recommend:

  • HeyMondo – the best value travel insurance provider on the market. They cover virtually every country in the world, they have an easy-to-use app, and their policies are straightforward and upfront, with minimal (often no) deductibles and excesses.
  • SafetyWing – if you’re a digital nomad like me, it’s essential that you have suitable insurance. It’s super flexible and affordable, you can sign up for as little or as long as you want, and can activate and deactivate it whenever you need to.
  • World Nomads – for adventurous travellers, covers 200+ activities that many other insurers won’t, such as skydiving, heli-skiing, rock climbing, rafting, scuba diving, cliff jumping, and kiteboarding (not available for residents of every country – check here).
